What is life like here at training camp?

Training camp has been a huge blessing to me and has already changed my life so much. I have loved the simplicity of life: hand washing dishes, laundry outside, and bucket showers. Everyday tasks and chores at home have become sweet time to slow down and have intentional conversation with my community, and conversation with Jesus.

In this new routine I have found myself finding so much joy in the little things. We take Sunday’s really slow here, just to rest in God’s creation. One Sunday we set up a little projector and watched the cartoon movie Prince of Egypt. We popped some popcorn and put a little leftover salt from lunch on it. That simple popcorn brought me so much joy. More joy than the really syrupy buttered, salted, caramelized, flavored popcorn at home would have brought me.

Tomorrow is Sunday! My encouragement to everyone at home is to look at your day tomorrow and see what unnecessary flavoring you have in there, what can you get rid of or change to make it more simple. How can you find joy in doing the dishes? How can you rest in God’s peace while doing laundry? What can you add to your day tomorrow for just a little sprinkle of salt?

Make tomorrow as simple and joyful as you can. Make some homemade popcorn and have an intentional conversation.

Update: We will be working with a program called Excel in Black Mountain, North Carolina! The plan is to leave the base here on September 25th. I’m not exactly sure what our ministry will look like and I am excited to learn! Our living situation will be tents, porta potties, and indoor showers! I can’t wait to see what God has for us there!

  1. Such good encouragement – thank you! I’m determined to simplify to make room for more of the Lord moving forward. 🙂

  2. In this busy, chaotic world it is a huge blessing to take a step back and enjoy the simple pleasures in life like popcorn and a movie projected on the wall with good friends. Also to remember Sabbath – many seem to view it as a burden but God intended it as a gift. A time to rest in Him and find joy in the simple.
